Everything You Need To Throw Your Dog The Perfect Bday Party

GoldenDoodleLouie turned 2!

If you're reading this, you've probably already picked out a halloween costume for your dog (or cat...or both for that matter). No shame. Ditto for throwing a birthday party for your furry friend. I believe the term is paw-rent. At least that's what Instagram tells me whenever I'm scrolling all those accounts featuring adorable dogs wearing sunglasses, hats & t-shirts. (Clothes on dogs are Instagram GOLD btw. Maybe even platinum. No joke.)

Anyway, what you need to make sure your party's a winner is a doggie cake. Yup. Not just any ole cake either. It should fit this criteria: Lovely to look at (Photo-genic. This is key. Super important for 'Gramming purposes. Your dog has his or her own IG account, right? Follow Louie @goldendoodlelouie.) and one that your dog (or dogs...In case you've put together a whole canine guest list) can actually dig into. Forget buying a 'people' cake at the bakery, throwing some candles on it, and singing HBD. We tried THAT last year and Louie basically tried to jump on the table to blow out the candles or whatever. There's that, plus the fact that reg chocolate is deadly for dogs. Enter Jack's Snacks in Warwick.

B. actually called them from Italy and ordered a cake last minute for Louie's party, which was so convenient. Reasonable too, priced around $20, give or take. Turns out they actually keep some of their bone-shaped cakes on hand, in the freezer, for last minute parties like ours. (Now you know!)

Louie, and Duke the Husky, adored the cake, which Jack's personalized with Louie's name and even added a few dog bones to the top. In terms of dog-tested and approved, these guys devoured their slices. (Duke's pretty picky, so the 'dogs eat anything' argument is so out the window here.) We were happy because Jack's bakes using doggie friendly frosting and without any sugar or salt.

One thing I realized later, after stalking their INSTA, is that Jack's does all these really amazing custom cakes like the ones above. With tennis ball or dog treat motifs. And more. #jelly Next year, we're def getting one of those for Louie or Duke.

*B. also had 'people' food for the two-legged attendees (another must if you're asking people to your house on a Sunday) and happy to report in the wrap up that GoldenDoodle Louie ended up with a ton of new toys and bones to last him thru at least Thanksgiving.
