Some Of The Best Local Spots For The Next Time You're Craving A Smoothie Or Juice
Sometimes it's one too many Madeleine cookies; other times, I'm sitting in the same juice bar 2 or 3 afternoons in a row, sipping something kale based. That's real, non-digital life stuff. Also known as, balance. Cookies? Now, they're pretty easy to get your hands on. (Isn't that always the way?) It can, however, be a bit of a challenge finding authentic juice, smoothies, and acai bowls made with super fresh (hopefully local-ish and organic too) ingredients around these parts. I mean, I've had my share of watered down juices and faux healthy smoothies that taste like penny candy. Exactly why I'm sharing an update on my list of favorite cafes and juice bars around the OS (i.e., Ocean State).
- Friends, former co-workers, and any number of healthier eating fans have described Fully Rooted Juice in Pawtucket as magical, life affirming, and more. Well, it is all that - with a cute interior to boot! And you don't need a Netflix documentary (There are a lot of those, aren't there?) to tell you how much better you feel when you're adding in some juices or smoothies made from top shelf quality fruits and veggies into your rotation. (That and kimchi or vegan kimchi, another food item that I truly believe can make a huge difference in your skin. For the record, FR carries a Rhody made kimchi that's intense.) I've tried two of their most popular flavors - Green Lemonade and Echinacea Sunrise - and wow, just wowww!
- Benefit Juice Bar has an unpretentious and hospitable vibe, with a dash of kitsch, that never gets old. It's the perfect under the radar healthy eating spot next time you're in the vicinity of Downtown or the East Side. Grab a juice, brekkie or lunch, and next thing you know, you'll be taking your friends there.
- High Tide Juice Co: Co-owned by two area natives, and avid surfers, HT's has so many menu options - juices, smoothies, bowls, salads, coffee, and sandwiches - that will make you and your fellow plant-based eating pals jump for joy. All in a sunny space with some Rhody rustic touches. Another Westerly spot to bookmark for after your next excursion to the Savoy (bookstore) or Christina Ltd.
- Wildflour Vegan Bakery & Cafe in Pawtucket The new expansion and remodel is marvelous! It's bright, airy (Have you seen the live plants/art installation on the back wall? So worth looking up from your phone for.), and best of all, there are way more seats. I mean, they keep getting busier and it had been difficult at times to snag a seat. So, now I can actually sit back and enjoy their made to order juice concoctions, smoothies, and wellness shots. Their vegan pastry is also something to write home about. So scrumptious it'll win over those friends and fam members who swear they simply can't live without butter, cow's milk or eggs.
