 Jazz In The Factory

The summer is finally here and the last few days have been perfect walking weather in the Ocean State. After finding myself with some rare time on my hands that’s just what I did this past Sunday, which is also how I found out about this small jazz event nestled in the heart of historic downtown Pawtucket.

Taking a stroll around Slater Mill next to Blackstone Valley River I happened to notice a banner for Jazz in the Factory. Okay look, I’m a sucker for jazz. I know not everyone shares my opinion there, but the packed audience Sunday night seemed to agree with me and not any of you who stopped reading when I said the “J” word.

The factory in question? The Slater Mill, a textile factory that dates back to the late 1800’s. Over the years the Mill grew and changed and became all sorts of things, including a bike shop at one point. Now it’s mostly a museum with the calming sound of the river as its backdrop. If you attend one of these events you’ll find yourself surrounded by textile looms, vintage wooden rafters, inexpensive wine and beer, and delightful music.

This summer they are doing a handful of events at the old factory, there’s a whole list you can check out. CLICK HERE if you’re interested. You can buy tickets online or at the door. I happened to catch the Tim Ray Trio, it was a delightful and intimate performance in the small space and I’d highly recommend you marking your calendars for one of these enjoyable shows.

Thanks for reading!
