Channel Your Inner British Royal With Sweets From This RI Based English Bakery
Even if you don’t fancy a cuppa (tea), have never ridden the London Eye or haven’t watched one single episode of The Great British Baking Show, you’re gonna luv.
Last January (before all of this) we were in Middletown and discovered a lovely English bakery tucked away behind another strip mall plaza over on Aquidneck Road.
When we popped in, the owner was in the middle of baking meat pies (I mean, helloooooo) and she was kind enough to walk us through all the traditional sweets and treats she had available that particular day.
These days, if you want to partake of the carefully crafted scones, shortbread, rock buns (cakes you might remember reading about in the Harry Potter books) and flapjacks (which we learned were NOT pancakes but oat bars), June Loves English Bakery is continuing to pop up through October at a bunch of farmers markets in the Newport County area.
You will most definitely want to keep an eye out for June and/or her son at the open air market in Newport on Memorial Boulevard as well as at the ones at Casey and Mt. Hope Farms.
Also, people have been known to rave about the lemon tarts and cakes which, I might add, are just as tasty with coffee (as opposed to say Earl Grey) as an accompaniment.
So channel your inner duchess (or 70’s rock star) and take a spin over to one of the outdoor markets to scope out all the classic English goodies.
PS ~ Sometimes she even has different candies from the UK available too.
*June Love’s English Bakery is located at 496 Aquidneck Ave. in Middletown RI. They don’t have an Insta but you can follow their Facebook Page for updates.
