The Johnston Eatery My Friend Flipping Loves For Takeout Breakfast Food

See this content in the original post

Even before launching this blog, I was a fan of diner culture.

Whenever my friend S. and I would take a road trip to NYC or Boston (it’s been a minute since we did anything like that because of the pandemic), we always went out of our way to stop for coffee, eggs and toast at one of the (usually Greek) diners we would happen upon en route.

Naturally I have some local Rhody favorites too, including the Blue Plate in Middletown (a gorgeous space with good food and consistently great service) and a micro version on Main Street in East Greenwich called Jigger’s (back when I did indoor dining getting a seat or two there felt almost like hitting the lottery).

I also just discovered another one, by way of another friend, and thought I’d share it here because takeout from this neighborhood joint that the townies in that neck of the woods apparently swear by is a swell way to bring the diner experience to your very own breakfast nook right about now.

And who wants to have to do the clean up required after attempting griddle cakes or something at home? Not fun.

I Like Hashtags Because They Look Like Waffles.

Okay, Emmily’s in Johnston isn’t a classic diner per se.

First off, their location at 103 Putnam Avenue is NOT a renovated railroad car.

They do, however, offer an extensive menu of benedict, pancake, omlette and waffle options that most definitely rivals any dining car based eatery in the OS or Ocean State. I mean, breakfast for lunch or dinner is one of the things that has gotten so many of us thru the last 10 or so months, amirite?

People rave about their pancakes made with bits of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (a childhood candy of choice for yours truly) or blueberries, their omelettes, and their pumpkin flavored French toast.

The word best (as in breakfast) has even been bandied about by some, both online and irl.

Pancake Obsessed

My friend? She describes getting takeout from there for her family as a highlight of her weekend.
