We Had Lunch At This Marvelous Greek Eatery & Market In Providence

See this content in the original post

A rewatch of Nia Vardalos’ feel-good-film-from-the-early-2000’s My Big Fat Greek Wedding is not required prior to tucking into a meal at Yoleni’s in Providence, although for the record it is one of those movies that I’ll ALWAYS stop and watch if I happen upon it while channel surfing. (PS, John Corbett was at his heartthrob best in that movie.)

Treated one of my brothers to lunch there recently (who says nothing’s open on Monday in the cap city) and I had forgotten just how marvelous this Greek eatery and marketplace downcity is.

First off, it reminds me of an enchanting food hall you might discover in NYC, Chicago, or Boston.

Yes, it’s big city all the way as far as ambiance, decor and details, eats, and of course, service. (Shoutout to our wait person who went above and beyond, helping me get my phone charged after the battery died on me. I say this as someone who was a manager at Nordstrom Providence for many years.)

Also, Rhode Island natives will fondly remember the space as the former home of Tilden Thurber, a fancy store where the glitterati of 20th century Lil Rhody shopped for jewelry and silverware. (Another one of my brothers bought his then girlfriend and now wife a gift from TT when they first started dating in the late 70’s.)

Their menu has something for everyone, from classic Greek dishes like skewers, kebabs, grape leaves, and spinach pies to more mainstream American fare like avo toast, flatbreads and even a meatless burger. (Am bookmarking THAT last one for my next visit.)

I can’t wait to go back with my husband or one of my close friends for another midday meal or to shop their incredible grocery area with all kinds of olive oils, cheeses, and more.

Find Yoleni’s Providence at 292 Westminster Street in Providence, RI.
