The Dreamy Salt Cave In Lincoln, Rhode Island For A Relaxing Afternoon
With the rainy (and foggy) weather in the forecast this week being indoors doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. If you really miss the salt water and salt air at the beach — or you just want an hour of solid relaxation — this Lincoln, Rhode Island biz could be just the thing.
Okay, I have a clue, three words…Pink Himalayan SALT.
Or, more specifically a Salt (or Halo) Therapy Cave. Salt caves, and meditation rooms, started popping up on the West Coast a few years ago, and people started going gaga over them shortly thereafter.
A little closer to home here in Rhode Island, one of my go-to’s is the Saltitude Himalayan Salt Cave in Lincoln.
It’s an absolute DREAM (see photo below) and I have been numerous times overs the years. I don’t have any phone photos (isn’t the whole purpose…to unplug?) but happy to report that it’s a fantastic way to decompress, especially right NOW post holiday.
Now, let me walk you thru a visit there.
First you’ll have to stash your shoes (bring a pair of white socks to change into, an absolute must to preserve the condition of the salt) and your phone. (Okay, you can bring your phone inside, as long as it’s turned off for the duration of your Salt Session.)
Next you’re ushered into a peaceful, magical space, also known as the SALT CAVE.
Once you’ve made yourself comfy in one of the zero gravity lounge chairs, you’ll experience a 10 minute guided mediatation (tbh, I fell into a pretty deep snooze around minute 9 or 10), followed by 35 minutes of silent reflection and relaxation.
All the while, the Halo-generator is working (silently) to mill and disperse pharmaceutical grade salt particles into the cave's micro-climate. Breathing in this ultra fine mist, combined with the meditation, is supposed to act not only as a natural de-stresser, but also help with balancing your system (as that relates to things like water regulation, blood pressure, staying alkaline, et cetera) and alleviating allergy symptoms and breathing related probs.
The store front is also sparkling clean, the woman always assists me (one of the owners…it’s a family run biz.) could not be more pleasant, and I feel incredibly relaxed immediately following, practically floating out the door following any and all 45 minute sessions in the cave.
I highly recommend reserving your spot in advance because honestly, calming time at this salt oasis and modern santuary is booking up quickier than ever these days.
