3 Delicious Spots In North Kingstown For National Pizza Day
National Pizza Day is here and ya know what?
You can extend this holiday beyond today (Friday, Feb 9th) by visiting these three (3) delicious spots in North Kingstown (RI) this weekend and beyond — because well made slices or whole pies are so versatile and can be eaten for breakfast (don’t knock it til you try it), lunch, dinner or late night snack while you’re catching up on season two of Feud: Capote Vs. Swans.
Pizza Vida
I have a great friend S. — have referenced her here before — who is a tougher food critic than The Fireside Gourmet (you thought I was going to say Dave Portnoy…remember The Fireside Gourmet was the food critic who out-of-nowehere popped into the pizzeria in Mystic Pizza, the 1988 movie featuring a young Julia Roberts) and her NEW go-to for PIZZA FRIDAY, Natl Pizza Day, and whatnot is…
PIZZA VIDA on Boston Neck Road (apparently it used to be a Kingston Pizza) in North Kingstown which I had no idea about until I heard her singing its praises.
Anywho, these pies are worth checking out. They are generously sized (their small is not tiny), everything’s made in house from scratch, the crust is crispy, and they have a gazillion different ones to choose from.
Popular orders include their Bianca, Fenway, 5 Chees, & The Ultimate Pizza.
The guy behind the counter at THE PLACE on Brown Street in Wickford cooks everything to order and he brought our white veggie to the table steaming hot. Steam was indeed coming off of it. You just don’t see that anymore and I mean THAT in the best possible way.
Once the pie cooled, it was so absolutely FANTASTIC !!!
The thin crust was just crunchy enough — I also know that it was VERY good because my friend ordered another one to take home to her husband for dinner and she is a tough customer to win over.
Now this place is decidedly NOT fancy, the furthest thing from it, but that’s fine by me.
Also, whilst we were sitting there, a steady stream of locals kept making their way in to this unfussy operation (with maybe 4 or 5 tables inside) to order takeout pies, grinders, and more.
They are open Tuesdays thru Thursdays from 3 to 9pm, Fridays and Saturdays 11am to 10pm, and closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Brought to us by the same people behind Tate’s Italian Kitchen next door, Micky’s (also on Brown Street in Wickford) is a no frills spot where you can grab a slice or a whole pie, and either eat in or take out. Who needs frills when the slices are so scrumptious! It actually reminds me of somewhere old-world-charming you might stumble across if you were touring some of the smaller towns and villages in Southern Italy.
We were there recently and they had at least 5 different kinds of pies to choose from. We ended up keeping in classic with a few slices of the cheese and an additional of their margherita. Everything was so yummy that I, for one, regretted not having ordered a whole pizza. Also they had a nice selection of Pellegrino italian-style fizzy water and drinks.
If you’re on the lookout for pizza adventure, motor over this wkend. I hear that they’re closed on Mondays, not 100% sure about their weekday schedule.
As always if you motor over after reading this, please let them know you were inspired by Patty J and PattyJ.com.
