3 Grilled Cheese Sandwiches In Providence You'll Want To Eat For Lunch

If you’re looking for a melty and toasty grilled cheese sandwich for lunch or a nice snack, then you’re in the right place.
Yours truly found 3 you’re gonna wanna tuck into this month and beyond.
First off, I popped in to Hope & Main PVD (a door or two down from The Beatrice hotel on Westminster) recently and maybe you haven’t been yet but their toastie (before you @ me, that’s a UK term for a grilled cheese sammie) is heavenly.
It’s made with a delectable cheddar and BSquared roasted garlic onion jam, all on a griddled (isn’t just about everything better from the griddle?) multigrain.
We are talking ooey gooey perfection.
Get it with a cup of their tomato bisque and you will be in mid-day meal heaven.
I feel like a lot of people don’t even realize they have sandwiches, which is a crying shame.
Next, I visited Red Stripe on Angell Street on Wayland Square and the grilled section of their menu is a must try for anyone who appreciates a hearty lunch (raises hand, lol) in a decidedly chic setting.
This restaurant is a forever favorite of mine because it reminds me of somewhere on NYC’s Upper West Side (stylish without being off putting interior, elevated comfort food that isn’t too over the top) without being stuffy or snooty.
You can choose from the Traditional (with Havarti), Bacon & Tomato (also with Havarti), Short Rib (Gruyère , demi glace), and the signature Red Stripe (Bel Paese, poached pear, prosciutto and basil pesto).
I got the Red Stripe — without the prosciutto bc I don’t eat ham — along with a cup of their tomato soup, and it still stands as one of the best lunches ever in the capital city.
It checked all the boxes, namely, crisp, buttery, warm and comforting.
Finally, the hubs and I also stopped by The Malted Barley (this tavern-esque restaurant, also on Westminster, was hopping by the way) because there’s a lot of love out in the world for their PRETZEL Grilled Cheese.
Theirs is a new twist on an American staple: Havarti and cheddar on an asiago and parmesan PRETZEL bun. GC Purists might be tempted to turn their noses up at first, but they too will be won over by the multi-layered taste experience and the sheer joy of four (count ‘em 4) cheeses incorporated into one sandwich.
Everything there is made to order, so do expect a bit of a wait.
That being said, time does indeed fly while mulling over which local beer to order, lol.
