My RI Life: Pinning & Coffee Or All About Charles
Charles Pinning used to be my neighbor back when I lived in the West End (now known as West Broadway) of Providence, RI.
My mom, Gilda Jeffrey, was a kickass (She might not be thrilled I'm using that term.) community activist and organizer during the 1970's and 80's (before it was fashionable) in the WB neighborhood. This meant our house was usually filled with lots and lots of people. It was an eclectic mix, made up of old time Italians, politicians, community leaders, artists and writers. And that's just for starters. (Pretty sure I'm leaving people out.) Charles obviously is one of the writers/people I remember fondly from those days.
When I contacted him to ask if he wanted to be part of PattyJ.com, he could not have been nicer or more accommodating. We met up at the L'Artisan Cafe & Bakery in Wayland Square on a sunny summer Friday not long ago and here's some of what we talked about:
Pinning's Favs:
Place for Iced Tea or Coffee: L'Artisan Cafe and Wilma's At Walker's Roadside Stand in Little Compton
Restaurant: Loie Fuller's on Westminister Street
Movies: Finding Vivian Maier (a documentary he saw at The Cable Car on South Main and highly recommends), Hotel Budapest and Blue Jasmine
