RI Style Diaries: How To Stay Home In Style Without Feeling At All Loser-ish
When the temps start to dip below 20 degrees, sometimes I just want to stay in.
You too, right?
So the next time your friends call you a loser for sitting one out by staying in, know who the real loser is - It's them dammit! - and follow my recommendations for what to read, wear and drink for that occasional relaxing night at home:
1. Turn The Page
Know this - I love me some celebrity autobiographies. But they must be by A Listers. Hey, I have my standards. These are two new ones I'm dying to read.
PPS - Really wanted to credit a local independently owned bookstore here, but honestly, there isn't one in my vicinity. Or maybe there is and I'm unaware?
2. Get Matchy Matchy
Normally, I'm not a fan of matchy matchy looks, but when it comes to pj's, I'm on the bandwagon. And I'm in good company, as you can see.
The thing no one tells you about pajamas is that if you know where to look, you can get some great ones for such affordable prices. One of the places I stalk regularly for pj's is TJ Maxx. You can usually score a nice looking set there - that will wash and wear well (I detest fabric that pills! Pilling drives me absolutely and completely bananas.) - for under $30. This season, I've bought flannel ones by department store labels like PJ Salvage and Munki Munki (that I swear are first quality) at TJ's for way less than department store prices. #Winning
Another secret? I buy my pj's 1-2 sizes bigger than my regular size. Because I want to be comfy, especially when I'm editing a blog post at 11 or watching an episode of The Girlfriends' Guide To Divorce (my latest Bravo/Cable On Demand obsession!) at 'like' 1am.
3. Stay Hot.
To do this, you need a hot beverage. One that's NOT hot chocolate. Hate to be a downer, but HC - before you even add any whipped cream - is loaded with sugar and will probably end up keeping you up all night. When it comes to your staying-in late night menu , think of hot chocolate as your Frenemy (We've all had that one person in our lives who turned out to be a frenemy and not a friend. I have my stories and I bet you have yours.) and tea as your new BFF.
Look for ones that are naturally caffeine free. For obvious reasons.
Don't like tea?
Try the ever popular hot water with lemon. Btw, My brother swears he started that whole health and wellness trend because he was drinking it 10-15 years ago, but he's wrong. I mean I was the one drinking it and (more importantly) posting about it on social media most recently, ok?
