Secrets & Lies: The Animal Print & Kitten Heel Edition
Yesterday, I bought a new pair of shoes - Animal print kitten heels from J.Crew Collection. They cost a little more than I walked in wanting to spend ($345 + tax), but instead of feeling panicked and regretful when I left the store, I was happy and optimistic.
Here’s why:
1. I strongly suspect that these shoes will sell out before going on sale. One of the things you have to learn when shopping at any store is which items to buy at full price (because they're so special they won’t last) and which to wait on (because they are less special and will sit on the shelves collecting dust). This will save you a lot of money and heartache down the line.
2. A great looking animal print won’t go out of style. Ever. After years of seeing fashion editors (and now bloggers) trotting out animal prints as a NEW fall trend every fall, I realize they’re not going anywhere. Also, whenever possible, spend a little more on anything animal print. Cheaper versions from stores like Forever 21 or H&M tend to look not as nice and #tacky. (Let me be clear - I shop those stores, just not for animal prints.)
3. All men love animal print. Even my husband. #Meow 😺😽😸😻
4. Kitten heels are where it’s at. They give the illusion of a higher heel and a longer leg (Just be sure that they have a pointy toe, not a rounded one!) without any pain or potential foot surgery. I once worked with a woman who had already had bunion surgery in her 20’s because she insisted on running around in 3 and 4 inch heels for 10-12 hours a day. Don’t let that happen to you! Bunions aren't cute and the survey isn’t fun. Plus #PrettyFeetMatter
PS - These shoes did end up going to sale after all, but "they" had already sold out in my size. Yes, I would have bought a back up pair! Firm believer in getting a back up of something you really love and that flatters. This applies to jeans, shoes and lipgloss for starters.
PPS - I also picked up the animal print in a high heel bootie version. On sale. Wore them tonite for Christmas Eve btw. Lots of compliments. Someone compared them to Madonna's look during the 80's (I'll take that as a good thing thanks - Her 80's look was on point.) and another uber preppy person told me they looked swell. See, even preps love a good animal print.
Thx & Happy Shoe Shopping,
