My RI Life: Holistic Health Coach & Personal Trainer Nancy Najarian D'Arezzo

Hi, I am Nancy Najarian D'Arezzo, Mom to Madison and Dylan, Certified Holistic Health Coach and Personal Trainer. My passions in life include being a great Mom and educating, motivating and inspiring women to be healthy and strong and live an authentic life. I love seeing the amazing changes women make when they find their true power.

I started working at a gym training clients and felt like something was missing. So to compliment my business, and offer more to my clients, I enrolled at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where I learned about bio individuality...I believe that a person’s nutrition plan is very personal and that a good nutrition plan is the foundation for who we are both physically and emotionally. That being said, bringing together a good nutrition plan with an exercise program and spiritual practice can dramatically change your life for the better. It’s not about being perfect - It’s about finding balance, developing a healthy relationship with food, and moving your body.

Tips & Tricks

Sticking to your nutrition plan can be complicated and sometimes difficult, especially during the holidays. Here are some quick and easy tips I use (and recommend to my clients):

  1. If you're going to a party, eat healthy meals throughout the day. Never arrive at a party super hungry. Allow yourself to indulge, but if you arrive on an empty stomach, you're definitely setting yourself up for failure. Remember, you are in control.
  2. Going out to brunch, lunch or dinner? Ask for sauces on the side, steamed vegetables and meats prepared without seasonings. Avoid appetizers as they are usually loaded with unhealthy calories. Again, you're in control.
  3. The Holidays are meant to be fun and enjoyable, but can bring added stress to our lives, mainly because we stop taking care of ourselves. We don’t get enough sleep, we eat unhealthy foods, drink more alcohol and don’t follow our normal exercise routine because we are “too busy”. Don’t let this time of year deprive you of what brings you joy and makes you feel good, but keep in mind that it is even more important to take care of YOU during this hectic time. You may need extra fuel to keep your body going, and to keep your immune system strong. (And believe it or not, even when you feel too tired to exercise, it will actually help you feel better and give you more energy.)
  4. Last but not least, and something most people overlook or know nothing about, is DETOX.  The truth is we can’t escape certain Holiday traditions and honestly, why would we want to?  It’s extremely important then to detox the body of toxins after indulging during the holidays or even after one night of unhealthy eating or drinking (or both). Whether you choose a mild or intense detox is up to you: the important thing is that you do include it as part of your nutrition plan.

Food & Restaurants

Even though there are so many restaurants to choose from in Rhode Island, why is it when you’re with a group of friends, choosing one is like making a life changing decision? My family and friends usually default to me because I am so “picky” about where I eat out. I need to know a restaurant will accommodate my clean way of eating. Some of my favorites, and most accommodating, are: Paparazzi (Love their Salmon and salads.), Bonefish Grille (The Chilean Sea Bass is outstanding!), The Coastguard House and Trio in Narragansett.

My favorite cheat meal is pasta and meatballs. I love making a sauce on a Sunday and enjoying a lazy day at home.

My kryptonite is ice cream from Brickley’s. I always joke that it’s a good thing they close for the winter or I’d be in trouble! Coffee is my favorite flavor and their “jimmies” are made with real chocolate and are also yummy. I usually ask for mine layered in the cone.

Scenic Spots

My absolute favorite place to be is Narragansett Town Beach where I can always find peace, even on the craziest of days. Taking my shoes off and walking barefoot on the beach - even on a cold day - is something I treasure. Living in Narragansett I’ve been able to experience some of the most beautiful sunrises, sometimes running down the street in my PJ’s to capture yet another sunrise picture. It never gets old.

Family & Friends

I am blessed with an incredible family: I am the youngest of six and feel honored to be part of the “Najarian Family”; my beautiful children, ten nieces and nephews, five great nieces and nephews and another one on the way. We are grateful to still have our Mom, who at 88 is still the boss. It really is pure love.

I treasure the friendships in my life; old and new. I’ve been fortunate to form friendships with people later in my life that have truly inspired me to be a better person. And I definitely think that laughing and being silly keeps us young!
