My RI Life: The Bloggers Behind "Stylish Mama Meets Organized Chica"

We are two Latinas from New England who blog for Stylish Mama Meets Organized Chica. We have been best friends for several years. When we started to share our passions and goals in life, we both realized we had the same dream of becoming bloggers. What started off as a mere thought turned into a reality back in 2013. Topics we blog about vary, but we usually lean towards local businesses in the New England area, fashion, makeup, organization, and food. We try to make our blog realistic for our readers and consider ourselves just regular girls who love to have fun. Life is all about balance, so when it comes to blogging we have fun with it. 

Here is a little bit more about us and where we love to spend time in Rhode Island.

Organized Chica

I’m a family oriented Latin girl all the way. My culture is a big part of who I am. I’m that girl that didn’t try her first P&J sandwich until my senior year in high school. I’m constantly looking at how I can plan, simplify and organize anything. It’s an addiction I have. I can’t seem to turn that feature off in my head. Which is why you will always find me at The Container Store, drooling over their merchandise and planning my next project. Besides organization, I have a passion for all types of things that allows me to express my creativity, such as photography and makeup.  

I love visiting Newport, RI every minute I can and enjoy walking on the rocks at Ocean Drive or visiting the Newport Mansions, each one has its own story which I find so very intriguing. My husband and I are vineyard lovers and Newport Vineyards is one of our favorite spots to go to and grab a bottle of their Great White and just relax.   

Now a girl has to eat, I love ordering Colombian Empanadas or Chorizo for breakfast at Caprichos Antioqueños in Pawtucket.  This bakery just transports me back home with all their delicious Colombian treats. To satisfy my sweet tooth, I need to have a donut from PVDonuts. They surprise us with new flavors all the time, but my favorite is their S’mores donut and Monkey Bread. For lunch, I could have a toasted Cheese & Steak sandwich from Fellini. I order mine with no cheese and trust me you do not need it at all. The steak is so flavorful and the sweet caramelized onions just melt in your mouth. Now let’s talk fancy dinner, Siena hands down is my favorite on the Hill. Their drinks are on point and their dinner menu is exceptional, Pollo Piccata and Manzo di Giuseppe will make you want to lick your plates clean.

Stylish Mama  

I'm a Bostonian at heart who fell in love with Rhode Island after working in this state for over ten years. My family, especially my husband and daughter, play such a strong role in my life. After them is my love of the arts, traveling, shopping, and FOOD!!  

I am such a foodie. So I apologize if you are not, as I am going to ramble on about food now...(disclosure if you are dieting). On mornings I don’t have to rush into work, you can find me grabbing a chai tea and a currant & caraway scone from Olga’s  Cup and Saucer in Providence. I work near Olga's and Rue Bis, so I often will stop in both for lunch. Rue Bis has this amazing chopped salad. It's loaded with toppings, including chickpeas, mangos, avocado, and feta cheese. When I am in the mood for Latin food, I will travel out of my way to go to a Venezuelan place called La Arepa in Pawtucket. I always order the same thing, a beef pabellon arepa, which is a corn cake stuffed with shredded beef, black beans, cheese and avocado. I at times crave curry and recently found Bee's Thai Cuisine on Ives from food photos Patty J actually posted. (Thanks Patty!) For dinner I enjoy going to "The Hill" for Italian, but my new favorite spot is dinner at Al Forno, on South Main. Al Forno has many beautiful dishes, I recommend the fried calamari pizza and dirty steak. Dirty Steak is not on the menu, but ask your server, you will not regret it. It’s a real life changer and please leave room for their apple tart. I heard about this on the Food Network, and it did not disappoint.  

I love how RI offers many boutiques and shops, whether its Pawtuxet Village in Cranston or Thayer Street and downtown Providence. I love the convenience of shopping at Garden City on lunch break. I frequently visit J.Crew, Loft, Anthropologie, Pottery Barn, and Crate and Barrel. A hobby of mine is to dabble in home decorating and often am told that I missed my calling when it comes to making a house feel like a home. For this reason, you will always find me looking for little treasures in and around small boutiques. Love unique pieces!  

Places We Both Love

We love the steak at Nami. Yes, we said a Japanese restaurant on Federal Hill…totally ironic…but believe us, order their NY steak. For sweets we love Pastiche, the fruit tart makes you feel like you were enjoying dessert in Paris. They also offer great cappuccinos and hot cider. And our go to for drinks is margaritas at Tortilla Flats on Hope Street. One top shelf margarita is all you need…trust!

For a place a little out of the city that has authentic Italian food, try Trattoria Romana in Lincoln. Dishes we love include Chicken Parm, Fruitti Di Mare, and Steak.

We frequent Wayland Square, which offers a lot of small local shops along with some big names like Alex and Ani and West Elm. We love that West Elm is featuring many local RI artists too.  Such a fun place to look around and shop!

And our favorite little consignment/boutique is Togs on Brook Street in Providence. The owner always puts cute things in her window, which lure us in. We have found several items at a great price. They offer both women's and men’s clothing, along with shoes and accessories.
