The Classic Newport Spot You & Your BFF's Will Want To Insta Story From This Season

The terrace at one of my fave Newport hotels has been rechristened The Cafe at The Chanler (per a recent Instagram post of theirs anyway) and I can’t think of a better excuse to take a personal day this month and motor on over.

We popped by this past weekend for a little dinner (Adored the cute tiny menus and the on-trend succulents on all the tables.) and it was as magical as ever!

The exceptional views of Easton’s Beach and the subtle yet elegant surroundings set a mood that’s both memorable and serene. The terrace definitely has a feeling of old school, casual glamour (I feel like if, say, George and Amal or Harry and Meghan were going to stay in Newport, they would pick The Chanler.) mixed with all the delights of being in Rhode Island on the water during the month of July (or August…or September, which if we’re really lucky this year will essentially be an extension of that Summertime weather most of us anticipate with great enthusiasm).

My only call-outs would be menu wise - would love, love, LOVE to see more plant based options and maybe even a mocktail or two. (Recently we were at the famous red bar - aka, The Gallery, I believe - at the Carlyle in NYC and were pleasantly surprised to see about a half dozen non-alcoholic creative cocktails to choose from. That’s all I’m saying.) The kitchen was kind enough, though, to whip up a nice little custom salad for me with greens, avocado, olives, and tomatoes, in addition to the grilled flatbread pizza appetizer I’d ordered.

You can go with your SO, or that friend who knows how to take the most flattering selfies. Or that person in your life who makes it a point of strolling the Cliff Walk at least once around this time of year.

I mean, it’s an easy, funtastic way to turn your next afternoon into a bit of a staycation, without having to actually pack a bag, stress over your warm weather wardrobe, or bemoan the fact that you’re the only one in your group who doesn’t own an Away Suitcase.

***The Chanler at Cliff Walk is located at 117 Memorial Blvd., Newport, RI.
