You Can Take A Lunch Or Supper Daycation On This Local Island & It Sounds Delightful

I’ve heard that the spa has tubs with salt water on tap, which is reminiscent of how Doris Duke lived over at her manse, Rough Point, back in her hey day. (If you have not yet watched the 2006 HBO movie Bernard And Doris, starring Ralph Fiennes and Susan Saradon, and inspired by the Tobacco heiress’ friendship with the Irish butler that she ended up naming as the executor of her multi billion dollar estate, you are missing out. It’s so good!)

They have also brought the goats back — two cuties called Cornelius and William, named after those titans of industry from the Vanderbilt fam and who were also owners of The Breakers and Marble House — to Goat Island. I know THIS btw because I saw it on Instagram. (I’ve been quite a few times, but have yet to spy them with my own little eyes.)

So, yeah, Gurney’s has revamped and elevated the Island and a property that prior to was, well, kinda sorta forgettable.

If you’re feeling restless or blah (maybe you’ve had to cancel vacay plans due to the pandemic), one fun thing you can do to change things up a bit is go for lunch or dinner at the restaurant there., the place to see and be seen this season.

Yes, you'll want to grab drinks, dinner, and get the t-shirt, the ones in the lobby gift shop are top shelf and I want one of everything whenever I browse the selection.

And they have a marvelous outdoor space with some sweet water views (more about this in a sec).

Whatever the season, our dinners there have been superb, from the bread basket (reminiscent of how Gracie's in Providence does it, with multiple mouth watering options, one tastier than the next) to the mains (exquisitely presented and oh so tasty), and last but certainly not least, the coffee which my friend S. continues to rave about.

Eats aside for a hot minute, the views of the boats, the sunset (if you’re lucky or you time it just right), and the Newport Pell Bridge from that outside seating are the ultimate and beyond Insta worthy. Search the app and you’ll find so many great looking images.

You will, for sure, want to add it to your daycation (or staycation) list this season because it is al fresco dining in the Ocean State at its very finest.
