This Boutique Hotel Is Bringing An Iconic Fashion Editor Back To PVD This Week & Wow
You’ve probably seen a bunch of people you know posting about it on Instagram and Facebook since the renovations were completed this past Spring.
I’m talking of course - or as ALT might say, bien sur - about the Ashley Longshore portrait of Andre Leon Talley, the eye-catching centerpiece of the completely revamped lobby of the Graduate Providence downtown.
Yes, you may already be aware that Andre Leon Talley worked at Interview magazine (and The Factory!) with Andy Warhol in 1974, at the Met’s Costume Institute with none-other-than Diana Vreeland around that same time, and as an editor at Vogue with Anna Wintour (first, as a Fashion News Director from 1983-87, and then later, as a Creative Director from 1988-1995).
Also, for the record, I just had coffee with someone last week who said she knows him from his stint as a judge on America’s Next Top Model, so there’s that too.
But, did you also know that prior to, he studied French lit at Brown University, graduating in ‘72?
Yup, applause, applause, that’s the Providence connection.
Well, news flash, the Graduate is bringing Andre back to the capital city this Thursday night for a special event, kicking off at 6:30pm.
There will be a screening of the 2016 Kate Novack documentary film about his life, The Gospel According to Andre (His filmography also includes appearances in everything from Sex & The City in 2008 and The September Issue in 2009 to Fox’s Empire in 2015.) , immediately followed by a Q&A session.
