Sure, you can bop into your local chain coffee shop for a latte, but what about the whimsy and warmth (or home-i-ness) of an indie one?

I say this because we were in Bristol over the weekend and stopped off at Angelina’s, Lower Hope’s st. cup of Jo., for some hot drinks and pastry (hot chocolate, tea, and a delish scone…although Larry David circa season 10 of Curb might find fault because said scone was soft, but who listens to him when it comes to British-inspired baked goods or biscuits anyway?) , and the entire experience was completely charming.

The first time I was there was back in 2016 it was called simply Angelina’s and it had more of a rock n’ roll vibe (think Troy Dyer or Vickie Miner 22+ years later…I recall walking in at the time and feeling somewhat uncool), with a red and purple walls and if I remember correctly, an extensive record collection in the back sitting room.

Last weekend, however, I found it mellow and low key relaxing with more muted tones (which has me thinking…new owners perhaps?), colorful and vintage-y looking porcelain cups which I’ll take over a to-go version any day, and in keeping with the current move toward all things wellness, locally brewed kombucha on tap (which I like…in theory mostly).

Also, the street where it’s situated has so many beautiful historical houses. We took a ton of photos that I’ve already started sharing over on Instagram. (That New Year’s resolution to spend less time online really wasn’t all that realistic for me after all.)

Next time you’re in the area and you’re feeling like a java jolt or caffeine pick me up - or a nosh - you’ll want to pop in to this cute little cafe located next door to Kate & Company (which, sorry fans, is apparently closed until February). It’s also quite a nice spot to take that friend who lives for local hidden gems. I know, I know, some people hate that word, but it just fits so well here.
