You Can Enjoy Food Truck Eats By Way Of These Virtual Events And What Could Be Better?
If the novelty of cooking at home has worn off and you’ve already binged all the best shows on Netflix (just finished season 2 of Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini in Dead To Me last night), then you’ll be jazzed to know that another round of virtual food truck events is kicking off in Rhode Island starting tonight (that’s Wednesday, May 13th).
Speaking of food trucks, if you’ve watched DTM, you’ll probably recall that in episode 6, Linda Cardellini’s Judy goes out on a casual first date with Michelle to a taco truck on the beach. According to pop culture site Vulture and their breakdown of that epi, “nothing you could watch on Netflix will make you more jealous during quarantine than this scene…” Ohhh, to be able to sit outside with someone (nevermind being on the BEACH) and share a nice meal.
Over the years, I’ve parked myself at a bunch of FT events with the hubs, friends, or both, and thoroughly enjoyed eats and drinks from some of my personal favorites including: Friskie Fries (always, always a line for their outstanding 🍟), Presto Strange O Coffee, Hometown Poke, and Burgundian Waffles.
(Photos below are from a PVD Food Truck event at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket last September that we were invited to. It was a blast! Also, my first time ever at McCoy. I mean, how Rhode Island is THAT?)
Well, the folks at PVD Food Truck Events get it! (Add their street eats festivals to the master list of everything you miss from the time before.) And they have started organizing updated versions of their outdoor food and drink fetes.
The old model would have seen us showing up to a specific location at a designated hour and roaming around from truck to cart to high top table, picnic bench or blanket.
Well, in the new era of what’s happening with CV, ordering has been moved online. (Thank goodness, so grateful we can do THAT!)
You can even buy a meal for a RI health care worker or first responder. (You’ll be happy to know that thus far, they have contributed over $3200 in food to those risking their own saftey and well-being to care for others during this pandemic.)
Once you’ve ordered your go-to’s (for me it might be a Vietnamese Iced Coffee from Presto or an Alley Cat from Friskie), you can curbside pick up your goodies at the designated location where your truck, or trucks, is situated
They’re also streaming live music courtesy of a number of different local bands.
So, if you’re experiencing food truck night (or day) withdrawal this season, you’ll want to stalk their Insta @PVDFoodTruckEvents and foodtrucksin.com/food-truck-events to see which makers will be there and much more.
