Channel Your Inner 80's Rock Star With A Rhode Trip And Photos At This Jamestown Park
It’s a balmy 61 degrees where I’m typing today — and in case you’re craving some sandwiches from the East Ferry Deli (sooo good!) in the heart of Jamestown for lunch right about now, you might also want to motor over to a nearby spot for some Insta Worthy photos and street art.
Whether you're taking photos with an I-Phone, as most of us are, or an actual camera, there's certainly no shortage of places in our little state to explore and enjoy during the milder months. To be honest, though, some locations just lend themselves more to stunning pics for social than others.
I say this because Forth Wetherill State Park in Jamestown is a curious outdoor space at the tip of Conanicut Island that has outstanding views (of Newport Harbor and the East Passage of Narragansett Bay respectively) AND a ton of graffiti that feel as though it could be straight out of an early 1980’s MTV video. (Anyone else watching the Real World reunion of the original season 1 cast? I watched the first episode that’s available for FREE via Amazon Prime, but am still on the fence about paying for Paramount+ in order to watch the remaining shows.)
Channel your inner Madonna, circa her Borderline video and style arc from back in 1986 (why not…everyone from Zara and Uniglo to Saks is still spotlighting 1980’s inspired threads) at the remnants of the former American Revolutionary Fort that’s on the property.
Graffiti for days and then some.
Add your own a la Keith Haring (joking) or just take a ton of snaps of the area that’s been deemed “the Devil's Playground” by some.
Some people also say (gasp) that it’s haunted by the ghost of a dog that once roamed the fort during the Revolutionary days.
