Yesterday In Jamestown

Newport is really nice this time of year, but if you’re looking for somewhere quieter and more serene, then Jamestown it is.

After lunch at the Village Hearth (we also ♥️ the East Ferry Deli and A Slice Of Heaven), stroll over to eyeball the vintage fire truck parked out front of 50 Narragansett Avenue (aka, the Jamestown Fire Memorial Museum).

PS And BTW, everything at the Village Hearth is scrumptious! Adore their breakfast sandwiches, baked goods & salads. Still want to try their pizza which I hear is phenomenal.

This Is It!

You’ll probably spot Santa Claus tooling around town on that hook and ladder THIS WEEKEND if you’re lucky, but did you know there’s quite the story behind it?

If (like me) you have wondered exactly how a 1947 Dodge fire truck emblazoned with Block Island on the hood ended up in Jamestown, then pull up a chair.

Apparently the powers that be on “The Block” sold it to the retired fire chief for a dollar so it could be part of the Fire Department Memorial Museum there and one of the local fire fighters then used his own time and money to completely restore it.

Night Lights

The tree is up in town, too. (Unfortunately that little shanty overlooking the NPT Bridge does NOT have the multi color lights illuminating the roof or the teeny tiny Xmas tree up top this December.)

Also, there are plenty of marvelous little stores on Narragansett Ave. for all your last minute holiday shopping needs.

Or if you haven’t even started, an afternoon excursion there could inspire you to get the ball rolling before 12-24. (Psssst…I worked in retail for close to 20 years and friends, you would NOT believe the people who actually do all of their Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve Day.)
