Okay, this family owned and operated Portuguese bakery has been open for over 100 years and I’m only just finding out about now?

We’re talking milestone status here.

Nata Thing Left To Eat On My Plate: Colonial Bakery on Broad Street in Cumberland specializes in mini egg custards (aka, pasteis de nata) and boasts a head baker who trained in Lisbon, Portugual.

I mean, it doesn’t get more authentic than that, amirite? (He is also in his 90’s which pretty great, too.)

Customers — regulars and newbies alike — give them beaucoup stars.

Someone called them egg tarts and I’m not mad, lol.

Fancy a fruit or a meat pie? They’ve got YOU…applause, applause.

Regulars go gaga over their cinnamon sticks, pan dulce or coffee bread (aka, sweet bread), and rolls.

Customers are in the habit of popping in on Saturday and Sunday mornings for right-out-of-the-oven loaves.

Not drooling yet? How about cavacas (Portuguese popovers with icing) and some doughboys???

And you can special order a cake for a friend or fam birthday as well.

They are open six (5) days, Wednesday thru Sunday, with Mondays and Tuesdays off, so do plan accordingly.
