The Casual Restaurant On The Water In Narragansett For Clam Cakes And Chowder

Had the first clam cakes of the season yesterday…

And boy were they yummy!

If (like me) you’ve been wanting to go to Monahan’s in Narragansett forever but every single time you’ve motored by, the line was down the road, then “pre-season” (aka, May) could be for you.

I was there yesterday and despite the cloudy, chilly and rainy weather, they were quite busy. (I drove over expecting sunshine and 70’s but that’s another story for another day.)

Go for the clam cakes & chowder, stuffies and fries.

Stay for the patio, ice cream shop, water views, and hot or cold lobster roll.

This clam shack is a wildly popular destination for families at the end of a beach day while other folks make the drive to Ocean Road in Gansett specifically to get casual lunch or dinner there which is really saying something.

Regulars rave about their coconut shrimp, fish & chips, fried clams, and the beer stand out back (it’s near the ice cream counter).

This is old time-y Summer-in-Rhode-Island energy and ambiance at its VERY best.

I mean, once temps start to stay above 70 and shorts become the daytime uniform in the OS (that’s Ocean State) once again, this place is gonna be mobbed.

So, why not zip on over this weekend, to get a jump before all the summah hoopla?

Find Monahan’s at 190 Ocean Road in Narragansett, RI. They also have another location in Charlestown that’s not open yet.
