The Local Vineyard For Clinking Glasses On Your Next Girls’ Day With Your Crew

Once you navigate the dirt road that leads to the main house, it’s completely charming in a let’s-sit-on-the-front-porch-and-wine sorta way.

I’m talking about Diamond Hill Vineyards in Cumberland, RI, which you’ll want to add to your not to be missed this summer or fall file asap.

Speaking of which, with the dip in temps this past weekend and people already posting pumpkin memes in Insta Stories (Does Sigourney Weaver know she’s a fall meme? Just wondering…), feel like I should tell you that DHV has both a cranberry AND an apple wine for all your autumnal occasion - or day drinking with your friends - needs.

During our last visit, we actually had the opportunity to meet the owner, Mrs. Bernston, who also presided over our tasting.

Jaws dropped after she told us her age because she looked amazing - because, well, WINE.

Her secret btw is to drink wine everyday, only one glass with dinner, though. (No random or impromptu wine-ing. )

While we were sampling some of their most popular wines, she told us that her place is one of the oldest in New England, dating back some 42 years.

She also divulged that they grow the grapes for their Pinot Noir on site, without any chemically based fertilizers or weed/insect killers (which I applaud wholeheartedly).

In addition, she said that while the grapes for their signature fruit wines are not grown on site, the wines themselves are made right on the premises, using only the best quality local produce. (She was emphatic about that last part.)

In the past, we’ve clinked glasses of both their Scarlet Run, a cabernet sauvignon that we found out later is named for the owners' greyhound, and their River Valley Run, a chardonnay named after the Blackstone River Bridge (Valley Falls), in case you’re looking for recommendations.

Another nice feature is that you are able to purchase crackers, hummus, and other picky bits on site, to go along with your vino. (Remember, never wine 🍷 on an empty stomach.)

If you’re looking for a brand new place to meet up with your besties, the porch at Diamond Hill is a splendid spot.

While we were hanging out, there were at least 2 or 3 other groups chatting, laughing, and of course, drinking wine. (The music was retro 80's too, always a plus in my book.)

It's an ideal setting for your next low key summer or fall afternoon with your favorite people.
