We Had Lunch At These Rhode Island Igloos Overlooking The Water

Yesterday at the Coast Guard House

Dining Bubbles in Gansett (RI)

If you’ve seen photos or videos from the igloos at the Coast Guard House on Ocean Road in Narragansett this month, and wondered if they were truly as fab in person, I’m here to tell you that they are.

We had lunch in one yesterday and the experience was a superb one.

These dreamy igloos (there are six in total including one with a “winter white” interior) feature an electric fireplace (you can adjust the temp), a speaker that enables you can listen to your fave playlists (we toggled between Yacht Rock and the Billy Joel Channel), and spectacular views of the ocean (saw that Narragansett Beach was pretty busy for a chilly January day).

Of course we had to order some seafood (and I encourage you to do the same). We started with an order of calamari (very tasty) and a half order of their jumbo shrimp (who doesn’t LOVE a jumbo shrimp or three?). The flatbread special of the day was a crispy delight (we ordered it without the ham).

For those wanting a burger, they’ve got you! Tom had their angus burger as his main; I went with an eggplant sandwich which all my vegetarian friends would enjoy.

For those doing Dry Januarty, CGH has a solid mocktail menu with six options. We went with a zero proof No Worries Sangria (lemon-lime soda, blackberry purée, pineapple and orange juice, alcohol-free sparkling rose) and a Blood Orange Spritz (ginger ale, fresh orange, cranberry, and blood orange cranberry).

Like the restaurant, the igloos are open 7 days a week and available via Open Table. There is a $100 fee to reserve one but the hubs and I both agree that it is well worth it. It’s splendid.

You can have lunch or dinner with your significant other (talk about a sweet date day or night, a mini birthday celebration (several parties ordered birthday cakes on Sunday) for your fave person, and on and on — the possibilities are endless.
