Take A Relaxing Sauna On This Rhode Island Beach This Winter

Altaer is bringing their wood-burning mobile sauna — the cedar exterior is lovely and everyone comments on that initially — to South Shore Beach in Little Compton (RI) on Saturdays and Sundays this winter and spring. (I first discovered them at the farmers market at Bristol’s Mount Hope Farm earlier this year, and have been following them ever since.)

This new-for-2025 experience combines the coastal tranquility of LC with the benefits of this top tier traveling sauna. Ideal for anyone who wants the benefits of a sauna session without being cooped up in a gym or a spa.

Additionally, it’s a marvelous way to pamper yourself now that the Holidays are over (we just took our tree down last night) and we are looking at 27 weeks of the cold season here in Rhody (eek). I certainly won’t be jumping in the water immediately following but if you’re one of those cold plunge devotees, then have a party.

You can book a seat or two in a communal sesh or splurge and reserve it for a private sitting with 5 of your friends. Add-ons include essential oil ($5), tea ($30), towels ($15) or go all out with a sound bath ($250).
